To click or not to click - understanding search engine optimisation
"I want you to get me to the top of Google"" is probably the most widely used phrase when customers call us for a discussion about a new or redeveloping website.
Any web design company who instantly says "yes" is biting off a big old piece of the apple, and when you bite off a big piece, people expect you to eat it.
Understanding how the many search engines work is 100% vital to getting your website noticed on any given one of them. It can be a very delicate, thought provoking process and really, only time will tell if your site is successful in it's optimisation. However, the dividends upon correctly setting up your site and ranking highly on the search engines is enormous.
Our approach has several key elements which we rely on when it comes to getting your website noticed:
- We will initially sit down with you to discuss what you want on your site, who you are trying to reach, where you are trying to bring users from and various other little bits of information which will help to....
- ....form the basis of a keyword analysis that we will do together with you. This is broken down page by page to maximise optimisation and the content of each page will make full use of this
- Every single page of your site will be optimised seperately. This may sound bizarre but most sites just have one set of optimisation tags which get "recycled" for use on each page. This is by no means the most effective way to optimise your site
- Your site will be fully accessible to DDA standards, including "ALT" tags on every image
- The quality of links coming in and linking from your site will be assessed to optimise performance on search engines
If you already have a website, we are more than happy to sit down with you and discuss how it is performing on search engines, and inform you how we can help optimise this existing site to perform better.
You learn something new every day
Whilst most web design companies will optimise your site to a degree and then either charge you to maintain this or leave you stranded not knowing how to change it yourself, we just won't do that.
Instead, we'll teach you the basics of search engine optimisation and show you around the statistics section of your hosting package. The benefit of this is that you'll be able to see exactly which keywords are performing best, which pages need tweaking, where your visitors are coming from geographically and which search engines they are using.
Search engine optimisation isn't an overnight success story but rather an involved, rewarding and vital part of any website design. We're sure you'll get into it once you see the benefits!
